What a freaking milestone. After months in the making, we just released the first startup documentary film focused on founders in Canada. This was arguably one of the most challenging projects I’ve undertaken with our small but mighty team. The details. The coordination. The scale. This was literally countless hours to put this film together. Going from pre production to production to post production was just insane. Each phase needed its own nuances. This is why content creation is not a walk in the park by any means. It’s countless hours working on things that, most of the time, don’t work.
We really need to appreciate what content creators do out there. This stuff is hard.
This whole idea for the documentary came up months ago after I had a chat with a founder about storytelling for founders and the lack of exposure. Let’s face it our current media landscape doesn’t really cover these stories. It’s been the same year after year. You know the drill fundraising, layoffs and some random policies. There’s nothing in between.
This also resonated on Twitter. The other day I saw a tweet saying that storytelling is the new CS and this couldn’t be more true.

Given the lack of exposure for founders, we decided to do something. Something different. We brought together three unique founder stories and put them into one film. As you watch the film, you’ll see some recurring themes, like:
Bootstrapping is a lost art these days.
Too many founders try to raise money without reaching product market fit. Get to that first dollar first, and in many instances, you don’t need to raise VC.
We need a market to sell to in Canada. Procurement anyone?
This was a real wow moment in the film, as we see founders voice their opinions. We need to have a market in Canada to sell to. Let’s look into our own backyard first.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the film. As we have received an overwhelming number of comments on Linkedin.

Check out the full-length film on YouTube. Let me know what you think!
